Walter Lewis Bond, Sr.
December 6, 1938 ~ June 6, 2019
Walter Lewis Bond, Sr. was born on December 6, 1938 in Bertie County to the late Tearcie Bond, Sr. and Dorothy Rhoulac Bond. “Chicken,” as he was affectionately called, was educated in the Bertie County Public Schools System.
Chicken was no stranger to hard work, and he was very much appreciated by his wife and children for always providing for his family. After graduating from W. S. Etheridge High School, he went to work for Lea Lumber & Plywood Company as a Mechanic, Welder, and Forklift driver for forty-two years until the plant closed. He was a very humble, soft-spoken man who had a passion for Chevrolet trucks and cars.
At an early age, Chicken accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor, North Carolina. Later in his
young adult life, he decided to be with his wife and became a full-fledged member of the Indian Woods
Missionary Baptist Church –Windsor, North Carolina where he served as a Deacon, Sexton, and Keeper of the lawn.
For fifty-seven years and eleven months, Chicken was a loving and devoted husband to his sweetheart, Pennie Louis Bryant. Married on July 28, 1961, they were blessed with four children: Sherice, Darryl, Mona, and Walter, Jr.
In addition to his parents, Chicken was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Bond.
